I live outside Dallas.

Where are you relocating from? This makes a difference on the auto information.

Will you be relocating into Dallas or just outside Dallas where housing costs will be less?

Utility companies for out-of-state relocated individuals will require a refundable deposit (usually after on year).

You will need to pass a Texas drivers license exam. any vehicles brought into Texas will be charged a fee (was $90 each) to change from another state to Texas. Be advised, if you have a vehicle over 25 years old you will qualify for an antique tag (good for five years) or a military tag for military vehicles.

Honesty is very important when pulled over. If you were speeding admit it and let the officer know why, you may get a verbal or written warning instead of a ticket.

Trading is very popular in Texas. Your word must be kept. Your behavior from day one will be remembered. You'll love Texas, I sure do.

Deregulation has taken place in TX so shop around. TXU is the most popular provider but they go by your credit score and where you lived in the past. Gexa energy and bounce are kinda new to the game. Bounce energy does not have fixed rates but you are also not in a contract so you can change any time.

http://www.geico.com/information/states/tx/register/ This explains everything you need to do to register your vehicle. We do not say DMV we have DPS.

Do not text or talk on your cell phone in a school zone. TX state law which is new so sigs are to be posted if they are not posted the city can not enforce the law. We drive fast so stay out of the left lane and always go 5mi over unless in a neighborhood or school zone. Neighborhood speed limit is 30 unless other side posted and 20 in a school zone unless other wise posted. The freeways are known for looping and there are several built in U-turns on the freeways. People here are generally friendly and talk to almost anyone :)

You'll have to get a Texas drivers license, and Texas license plates as well as having your car inspected, which must be done once every year. You must have car insurance or your car can be impounded if you get stopped. You cannot talk or text on your cell phone in a school zone. There are cameras at many intersections to catch red light runners, who will receive their ticket in the mail. Toll roads do not have toll booths for payment so you either have to have a toll tag which charges your credit card or they will send you a bill for the toll through the mail with an additional service charge tacked onto it.

All of that and you need to do a real good check on the neighborhood where you plan to be,esp drug & crime rate& where the closest shopping places & the cheapest & what kind of area if not driving(some are in not too cool areas to walk around in.
