What are your opinions on Oak Cliff (in Dallas)?

I'm wondering what people think of Oak Cliff the way it is now. Since I lived there and there were some areas that were good and some were just run down. I hated it when one of my friends said that Oak Cliff is the ***hole of Dallas, TX. What do you think?

I lived there for over 20 years, and you are correct in that most people in Dallas think Oak Cliff is a slum.

It is still the same now, with neighborhoods that are much better than places in North Dallas, and much cheaper.

The biggest problem is the news media who don't have a clue as to what is Oak Cliff or West Dallas or South Dallas and use the terms for the same places regardless of their true location.

I lived in South Oak Cliff in the 50s and 60s and in Stevens Park in the 80s and 90s, and these were great places to live with hills and big trees, not paved over cotton fields like North Dallas and Plano.

Plus it did not take an hour to get to work in the morning and another hour to get home in the evening driving Central Express way.

I have lived in Dallas county for 25 out of 29yrs. Just like any part of Dallas there are good parts and bad parts. Some people forget about the Kessler Park area. I live in Cedar Hill and some people view it as Oak Cliff. I love where I live and can name bad parts of Grand Prairie, the Dallas Pleasant grove area, forest and Audelia, and lets not forget about the #1 high crime area of Dallas off of Greenville Ave and Meadow across the street from Presby and behind the American Heart Association building. Most people who think bad about certain cities have lived in those areas. I have lived in the Grove,Greenville and Meadow and near Audelia and skillman. The point is people hear bad things without finding out if they are real.

I realize I'm one of the people who have a negative image of Oak Cliff, and I need to change that since I don't really know exactly where Oak Cliff is. A lot of people feel the same way about Grand Prairie, where I live, because it was a sleepy old town for so long, but the southern part out towards the lake has grown with big new homes, shopping and restaurants and is very nice. I say if you like it that's really all that matters.

Some areas aren't so bad but esp S.Oak Cliff has gotten very dangerous,hvy with org crime,gangs,drugs,crackheads,etc.& corruption is at an all time high.
